Other clients are institutional or non-profit which includes schools, fire stations, train depot restorations, large scale residential, and other building types. The firm was founded in 1957 by Lawrence T. Hord, Jr. and continues today under the leadership of Carter Hord, AIA. Carter is currently licensed to practice in nine states and is NCARB certified which allows for reciprocity in other states.

Hord Architects has a service approach to architecture. Our three part philosophy includes designing inspirational architecture, specifically suited to our clients needs, and within their budgets. We believe that meaning and content are what separate architecture from mere building. Architecture should in some way transcend utility.

We also believe in producing responsible architecture. This includes both the process and the product. The process should be a respectful one in which we treat every team member from the client’s representative to the final clean-up crew with the same appreciation and respect. The product should be a responsible design solution which is respectful of its context and has architectural honesty and integrity.

The firm’s members and consultants have a very strong work ethic and are committed to excellence. Architecture is a form of ministry for us because we feel called to use our talents in a glorifying manner.
